Located just south of Carnes, this steel stringer bridge crosses a small drainage ditch alongside Iowa Highway 60.
Built in 1901, the bridge consists of a single steel stringer span, set onto stone masonry substructures. The beams on this bridge are arranged in two sets of two, for four total. This beam arrangement is considerably lighter than other bridges on this route.
The only major repair to the bridge appears to be the bearing blocks, which have been replaced with new steel. This type of bridge is common along this route for crossing streams.
Unfortunately, the plaque on the bridge has been removed, meaning that no build date can be found. The author will conduct further research into this.
The bearing areas of the bridge are newer stone, indicating it is possible that this bridge replaced an older steel bridge, or that this span was moved here later on to replace an older bridge.
Overall, the bridge appears to be in good condition, with little notable deterioration.
The author has ranked the bridge as being locally significant, due to the common design.
